Parent Groups

Parents Association

The Parents Association is the official body that represents all parents at St Mark’s Church School. The Parents Association aims to :

  • promote good relations, communication and co-operation between parents and the school
  • raise funds to benefit the school and students generally
  • ensure the views of parents and the Parents Association are made known to the Board
  • further the interests and welfare of the students and the school

Committee meetings are held on the first Monday of the month during term time.  Starting at 8:00am and held in the School Board Room, all parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.  Each meeting includes a regular Principal’s update so everyone learns more about what is going on in the school.  It is also a great opportunity to meet other parents from across the school.  Meetings generally take about an hour to an hour and a half.

The Parents Association, in conjunction with the SMILE Team, coordinate large fundraising events.  This year, the Christmas at St Mark’s Gala will be held on Sunday 27 November.  In previous years we have also held Parent Balls (A Starry Night in 2015 and a Masquerade Ball in 2013).

Should parents wish to discuss any issues to do with their child at school or the way the school is run, they should first contact their child’s teacher.

Room Parents

Room parents at St Mark’s are parent volunteers from each class or year group whose primary role is to support the classroom teacher.  They support staff by coordinating communication between teachers and parents, assisting with organisation of class events and welcoming new parents and families who arrive at St Mark’s during the school year.

Many room parents organise social activities for their classes, for both students and parents.  They also provide vital support to the Parents Association and SMILE team by assisting with annual fundraising.

St Mark’s Initiatives for Little Extras – SMILE Team

The SMILE team is a group of parents and grandparents, who meet monthly at 8.45am on the first Friday of each month.  We meet in the school staffroom and coffee is available from 8.30am.  You are welcome to bring along babies and toddlers to this relaxed meeting.

The SMILE team supports the School in a variety of ways including welcoming new families to St Mark’s, hosting daytime parent functions, catering for special events, fundraising and providing resources for the School.

We are perhaps most well known to the children for organising special activities including Cupcake Day, Ice Cream Day and Pizza Day!

SMILE is a lot of fun and not a lot of work – you can be involved as much or as little as you are able.  We would love to welcome you to a meeting.
