This page aims to answer any questions you may have about our school’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are following Government and Ministry of Education advice regarding our ongoing operations, and we will add new information as and when relevant.

LEARNING UNDER COVID-19

There is a huge amount of uncertainty in our world at the moment but one thing is for certain – St Mark’s is a place with a strong commitment to learning and teaching. Our school is currently operating under Alert Level 1 conditions.

LEVEL 1

Under Level 1, our school is open with a number of safety precautions being taken to protect the wellbeing of everyone in our community. These include:

  • Our school hours of 8:20 am – 3.05 pm will operate as normal, and children can arrive on-site from 7:45 am.
  • We are not required to contact trace, but we will be displaying QR codes in the window of the SMART room facing the playground, in Preschool, in the Chapel, the Hall and in Reception. We encourage you to monitor your movements, as recommended by the Government.
  • Wash your hands regularly. We will have this built into our daily routines.
  • High levels of cleaning and hygiene will be in place.
  • We encourage Preschool staff and children to bring indoor shoes/slippers.
  • We ask for parent’s support if your child is feeling unwell, in any way, even with a mild cold or sore throat. It is important that they stay home. Please contact your GP or Healthline, who will advise on any further action needed.

LEVEL 2

The wellbeing of our school community is at the forefront of all our decisions, policies and procedures. Under Level 2, our school is open with the following safety precautions being taken to protect the wellbeing of everyone in our community. These include:

  • Our school hours of 8:20 am – 3.05 pm will operate as normal, and children can arrive on-site from 7:45 am. Where possible we ask that only students enter school buildings.
Anyone entering the school site during the day must sign in at Reception, to assist us with contact tracing.
  • Children should not share their things with others e.g. food, electronic devices or stationery.
  • Please do not bring sports equipment, toys and games from home.
  • Wash your hands before and after touching school playground equipment, musical instruments or sports gear.
  • Washing your hands regularly and before eating food. Staff will provide reminders to children as well
  • Please bring a named full water bottle, as our water fountains will be off-limits to all children
Staff will clean their classrooms, with disinfectants during the day, on top of the daily clean by our school cleaners.
  • Playground equipment and PE equipment will be cleaned thoroughly and regularly.
  • To assist with hygiene in classroom spaces we will provide wipes in each class so the children can wipe down their own possessions and desk area during the day. Children can also bring their own wipes from home if they wish to have their own supply.
  • There are clear and strict guidelines for the dropping off and collecting of students.
  • We ask for parents support if your child is feeling unwell, in any way, even with a mild cold or sore throat, it is important that they stay home and you should also contact your GP or Healthline to arrange a COVID 19 test immediately.

LEVEL 3

At Alert Level 3 our school is open only for the children of essential workers and others who need to send their children to school or preschool. We are in constant contact with the Ministry of Education and will be following all recommendations and safety precautions from the Ministry of Health for anyone on-site during this time.

All other students who can learn from home should be doing so. These students will learn via our Distance Learning Programme, which has been developed in a very special and uniquely St Mark’s way. Students will continue their learning in a variety of ways, including face to face with teachers using Google Hangouts/Meet and through tools such as Seesaw and Google Classroom where tasks are presented and feedback and comments offered. Specialist Subjects, including PE, Spanish and Science, continue to be offered to all students, and we will be holding virtual assemblies and weekly virtual Chapel services.

LEVEL 4

While our school was closed for the duration of Level 4, all students learnt from home via our Distance Learning Programme.

The programme was developed in a very special and uniquely St Mark’s way. Students were engaged in a variety of learning engagements, both face to face with teachers using Google Hangouts/Meet and through tools like Seesaw and Google Classroom where tasks are presented and feedback and comments are being offered. PE and Specialist Subjects continued to be offered to all students, and we held virtual assemblies and weekly virtual Chapel services.

If you have any concerns about your child, please reach out to your classroom teacher or Associate Dean. You can also access support and information on a huge range of issues at our School TV site.

TESTIMONIALS

We really appreciate all of the efforts the teachers were going, to provide stimulating resources and activities for the children, especially when they are also inside their bubbles (with kids/family members often) and working with what resources are to hand. The displays and animations and activation of household objects for storytime has been incredible and hats off to all the highly creative acts undertaken by the teachers.

Preschool Parent

We wanted to write to you and let you know how impressed and appreciative we are with the distance learning program that you have all put together and implemented. Edward is so happy each day to see Mr Mrdalj and his friends and is enjoying the tasks set for him. The amount and type of tasks seem just right as does the extra engagement time such as story time. Your emphasis on community and wellbeing stands out - please thank all of your staff from us.
