From Monday 18 May, St Mark’s School will be open to all students, under Level 2 restrictions. We are following the government and Ministry of Education advice regarding our ongoing operations. This page aims to answer any questions you may have about our school’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will add new information as and when relevant.

There is a huge amount of uncertainty in our world at the moment but one thing is for certain – St Mark’s is a place with a strong commitment to learning and teaching.

The wellbeing of our school community is at the forefront of all our decisions, policies and procedures. Under Level 2, our school is open with a number of safety precautions being taken to protect the wellbeing of everyone in our community. These include:

  • Our school hours of 8:20 am – 3.05 pm will operate as normal, and children can arrive on-site from 7:45 am. Where possible we ask that only students enter school buildings.
Anyone entering the school site during the day must sign in at Reception, to assist us with contact tracing.
  • Children should not share your things with others e.g. food, electronic devices or stationery.
  • Please do not bring sports equipment, toys and games from home.
  • Wash your hands before and after touching school playground equipment, musical instruments or sports gear.
  • Washing your hands regularly and before eating food. Staff will provide reminders to children as well
  • Please bring a named full water bottle, as our water fountains will be off-limits to all children
Staff will clean their classrooms, with disinfectants during the day, on top of the daily clean by our school cleaners.
  • Playground equipment and PE equipment will be cleaned thoroughly and regularly.
  • To assist with hygiene in classroom spaces we will provide wipes in each class so the children can wipe down their own possessions and desk area during the day. Children can also bring their own wipes from home if they wish to have their own supply.
  • There are clear and strict guidelines for the dropping off and collecting of students.
  • We ask for parents support if your child is feeling unwell, in any way, even with a mild cold or sore throat, it is important that they stay home and you should also contact your GP or Healthline to arrange a COVID 19 test immediately.

If you have any concerns about your child, please reach out to your classroom teacher or Associate Dean. You can also access support and information on a huge range of issues at our School TV site.

While our school was closed for the duration of Level 4, all students learnt from home via our Distance Learning Programme.

The programme was developed in a very special and uniquely St Mark’s way. Students were engaged in a variety of learning engagements, both face to face with teachers using Google Hangouts/Meet and through tools like Seesaw and Google Classroom where tasks are presented and feedback and comments are being offered. PE and Specialist Subjects continued to be offered to all students, and we held virtual assemblies and weekly virtual Chapel services.

Enrolments are still very welcome. . For enquiries please contact our Director of Admissions, Mrs Kate O’Brien at

St Mark’s is strictly adhering to the Government’s health and safety guidelines and protocols for the reopening of schools and early learning centres – the safety of our school community is of the utmost importance at this time.

To reflect this we will be temporarily suspending our “Explore St Mark’s Preschool” events which usually run each Wednesday morning 10:00 – 12:00 pm. We are more than happy to arrange a virtual tour and chat with our Dean of Preschool instead, or please feel free to email me with your enrolment enquiry.

Our “Explore St Mark’s” Open Day events (for Preschool to Year 8) will also be conducted remotely for the remainder of Term 2 – more details are to come and registration will be available for our virtual tour and discussion groups.

We really appreciate all of the efforts the teachers were going, to provide stimulating resources and activities for the children, especially when they are also inside their bubbles (with kids/family members often) and working with what resources are to hand. The displays and animations and activation of household objects for storytime has been incredible and hats off to all the highly creative acts undertaken by the teachers.

Preschool Parent

We wanted to write to you and let you know how impressed and appreciative we are with the distance learning program that you have all put together and implemented. Edward is so happy each day to see Mr Mrdalj and his friends and is enjoying the tasks set for him. The amount and type of tasks seem just right as does the extra engagement time such as story time. Your emphasis on community and wellbeing stands out - please thank all of your staff from us.
