The School Board has decided to change the uniform for the whole school to the modern, distinctive uniform already being worn by a number of older students.

The new uniform, modified in a minor way, will be on display at the Den from the start of Term 4.

Both girls' and boys' uniforms will have -

  • a red and navy blue striped blazer with lapels
  • a navy long-sleeved knitted jersey or a red short-sleeved knitted vest
  • navy blue sunhat
  • black shoes or sandals

In addition, the girls' uniform will have -

  • navy blue tunic (Years 0-6) or navy blue skirt (Years 7-8)
  • white blouse (long- and short-sleeved)
  • red bow tie (Years 0-6) or navy blue tie (Years 7-8)
  • white socks (Terms 1 and 4) or black tights/black socks (Terms 2-3)

The boys' uniform will consist of the common items and -

  • white shirt (long- and short-sleeved)
  • navy blue shorts
  • navy blue socks
  • navy blue tie

Transitional Arrangements

These are the transitional arrangements made by the Board and the Uniform Trust.

  • All students at St Mark's will be required to wear the new uniform from the beginning of the 2012 school year
  • The new uniform can be purchased from the Den from the start of the 2009 school year
  • Students in Year 7 and 8 who already have the new uniform will continue to wear that uniform, even though it will differ in minor respects from the new uniform
  • Students must wear either the existing older uniform or the new uniform from January 2009 through to December 2011. They will not be permitted to wear items from both uniforms at the same time
  • New and secondhand items for the existing older uniform will be sold from the Den until December 2011 (or until stocks are depleted). The Den will continue to sell, on your behalf, any used existing uniform items that are in good condition

Next Steps

By December 2008, the School Board and the Uniform Trust will decide which PE uniform is to be used in the future and also will prepare a new uniform price list for publishing by the start of Term 4.

The Chairman of the St Mark's Church School Uniform Shop Trust, Roger Wigglesworth, says he looks forward to the change to what is a smart, exciting and contemporary look for St Mark's students. While a complete change to a school uniform is a costly decision that affects all families, he hopes the transitional arrangements the School Board and Uniform Trust have put in place will help make the change as easy and as flexible as possible.

Any questions about the arrangements for the transition to the new uniform should be directed to Anita Stewart at the Den.
